Steering applies to the collection of components, linkages, etc. which will allow for a vessel (ship, boat) or vehicle (car) to follow the desired course. It allows by mechanical means for a driver to control the course of a moving automobile, bus, truck, or tractor.

It is the means by which a motor vehicle is controlled about the vertical axis. It allows the driver to control the course of vehicle travel by turning the steering wheel, which turns the input shaft in the steering gear.
